“Pasteur-Paris University” International Doctoral Program: Class of 2024-2027

On October 4, Institut Pasteur welcomed 19 new students to the “Pasteur-Paris University” (PPU) international doctoral program.

Since 2009, the PPU program has offered talented students with a passion for science the opportunity to follow an exceptional doctoral program in the exciting, dynamic and interactive research environment of the Institut Pasteur, in collaboration with Parisian universities.

The students selected for the PPU program come from several continents, and their backgrounds and degrees are often varied, adding to the richness of this multidisciplinary program. Each class is named after a prestigious scientist associated with Institut Pasteur. This year, the class of 2024-2027 is named after Katalin Karikó, the Hungarian biochemist who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 2023, jointly with Drew Weissman, for “their discovery concerning nucleoside base modifications that enabled the development of effective mRNA vaccines against COVID-19”.

Since September 19, 2024, the Institut Pasteur, in collaboration with the Institut Liszt in Paris and the Hungarian Embassy, has been devoting an exhibition to the subject: “RNA routes, from the discovery of the messenger to Katalin Karikó's Nobel Prize”. The exhibition highlights the extraordinary history of this molecule, which has led to major scientific and medical advances. On this occasion, she was interviewed by two students from the PPU program and addressed a message to young researchers: “Have fun in what you do, persevere in what you believe in, and take care to balance your private and professional life”.

Thanks to the various partnerships, the PPU is growing in size and subject coverage, reflecting the breadth of research topics tackled at Institut Pasteur.
