2024 Canetti Prize, French Academy of Sciences, Sanofi iAwards: Institut Pasteur scientists recognized

•    Mathieu Picardeau, winner of the 2024 Georges, Jacques and Elias Canetti Prize

Since it was introduced in 2006, the annual Georges, Jacques and Elias Canetti Prize has provided support for Institut Pasteur scientists carrying out research in the field of infectious diseases. The aim of the award is to recognize talent, encourage creation and reward the achievements of scientists.

The 2024 winner is Mathieu Picardeau, Head of the Biology of Spirochetes Unit, the National Reference Center for Leptospirosis and WHO Collaborating Center for Leptospirosis for his work on improving our knowledge of Leptospira, the bacteria responsible for a re-emerging and all too often neglected zoonosis: leptospirosis.

•    Jessica Quintin et Nathalie Sauvonnet, winners of the Sanofi iAwards

Sanofi, an international group specializing in life sciences, launched the "iAwards Europe" (Innovation Awards Europe) program in 2018 to recognize innovation and encourage the development of novel treatments.

Jessica Quintin and Nathalie Sauvonnet are the respective laureates of the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 Sanofi iAwards. The aim of the iAwards is to fund projects over a 12-month period, with the possibility of an R&D collaboration with scientists from Sanofi at the end of that period.

Jessica Quintin's project involves validating a proof of concept related to the live vaccine for yellow fever, which is recommended internationally. The aim is to carry out an exploratory study to observe, in the context of current practice, the immune response obtained after a subunit and a live attenuated vaccine.

The aim of Nathalie Sauvonnet's project is to develop a new model to mimic the complexity of the human gut during inflammation, which could serve as a platform to test future anti-inflammatory drug candidates.

As you may already be aware, the Institut Pasteur has established framework agreements with several strategic industry partners, including Sanofi but also bioMérieux, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Roche, Sensorion and Moderna (via a Material Transfer Agreement).

Focus

Framework collaboration agreements: a tool to speed up co-development and reduce administrative burden.

Framework agreements offer several advantages:

•    They facilitate access to experts in R&D teams,
•    They improve administrative efficiency:
       - or example, as confidentiality issues are already covered, there is no need to draw up a confidential disclosure agreement (CDA) for each new discussion,
      - as the legal terms of potential applications have been discussed in advance, a template is already available, making it faster to draw up a collaboration agreement.

Please feel free to contact the Technology Transfer and Industrial Partnership Department (DARRI) if you would like to collaborate with one of the Institut Pasteur's industry partners.
