On January 23, 2025, for the first time since Sound Week was founded, the Hearing Institute hosted a conference entitled "Sound environment and well-being," in partnership with the CEPREMAP Well-Being Observatory.
After an introduction by Aziz El Amraoui, Head of the Progressive Sensory Disorders, Pathophysiology and Therapy team, outlining the research conducted at the Hearing Institute and the reConnect IHU, Mathieu Perona, Executive Director of the Observatory, presented the results of the Observatory's work analyzing how well-being is related to our sound environment.
To delve more deeply into the topic, Boris Gourévitch, CNRS Director of Research and a scientist at the Hearing Institute, Christian Hugonnet, President of Sound Week, and Mathieu Perona participated in a round table on the topic "How to advance our knowledge of the impact of the sound environment on well-being."
The discussions among the professionals and with the audience contributed to the wider debate on the role of noise and sound in society.
To give the audience and visitors to the Hearing Institute a unique immersive sound experience, Cécile Planchais installed her artistic creation, the IMIROIR® sound bench. The principle of sound diffusion by light vibrations acts like a full-body massage.
Other members of the Hearing Institute and the reConnect IHU were also involved in Sound Week:
• Paul Avan, Co-Director of the CeRIAH, on "Assessing sound pollution"
• Christine Petit, Head of the Auditory Therapies Innovation Lab, on "Age-related hearing loss: Scientific breakthroughs and medical prospects"
• Hung Thaï-Van, Co-Director of the CeRIAH, on "The needs of patients"
• Arnaud Coez, a hearing aid specialist and member of the CeRIAH, on "Identifying hearing disorders: the role of audiology professionals"
Thomas Dutronc, patron of the reConnect IHU and a previous Sound Week patron for the 20th edition of the event, composed the 2025 soundtrack to the competition "When sound creates image."
