Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
With the support of the scientific departments, Biomics acquired a Pacific Biosystems Sequel sequencer in late 2016. Several pilot projects were carried out in 2017 and, in close cooperation with the Information Systems Department, an analysis pipeline has been set up on the Institut Pasteur computing cluster (TARS) for prokaryotic and eukaryotic genome analysis.
The Sequel uses single molecule real-time (SMRT) technology for long sequence reads, up to 40Kb (depending on the DNA quality and the conditions the samples were prepared in). This is ideal for de novo sequencing of prokaryotic genomic DNA, for which it is often possible to provide single-contig assemblies. The long read lengths also enable scientists to sequence full-length mRNA molecules from eukaryotes to analyze alternative splicing events (ISO-Seq).
The document previously used to submit proposals to the Biomics Pole has been replaced by a new procedure. You can now submit your proposals online via the new submission website. The submission process is very similar to the process used by the C3BI. It allows you to follow your proposal in real time and facilitates communication between staff members. Users are encouraged to head to the main Biomics website for more information before submitting a proposal.
