Major HIV target under the microscope

By closely studying CCR5, one of HIV's gateways into cells, scientists from Inserm, the Institut Pasteur, Toulouse III/Paul Sabatier University and the CNRS have demonstrated that its morphology determines the propensity of the virus to infect the body. This research, supported by the ANRS and published in the journal PLOS Pathogens, is a further step towards understanding the role of CCR5 in HIV infection and its potential as a target to prevent the virus entering cells.
