Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
On December 29, 2015, the World Health Organization declared the end of Ebola virus transmission in the Republic of Guinea. Forty-two days had passed since the person with the last confirmed case tested negative for the second time. On that date, Guinea entered a 90-day period of heightened surveillance to ensure that any new cases would be identified quickly before they could spread to other people.
In light of this announcement, Christian Bréchot wanted to convey his thanks for the concerted effort and commitment to the fight against Ebola virus disease:
"Dear all,
Guinea has just been declared free of any new cases of infection by the Ebola virus, after more than a year spent fighting the disease.
I would like to express my sincere and heartfelt thanks for your unprecedented commitment to this joint effort, which resulted in the installation and deployment of the laboratory in Macenta, in conjunction with the French Red Cross.
The Institut Pasteur will continue to work closely with the health authorities and research bodies in Guinea, opening a new laboratory in Conakry followed by an Institut Pasteur in Guinea."
