Christine Petit elected a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters

The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, founded in 1857, is a non-governmental, nationwide body which embraces all fields of learning. Its main purpose is to support the advancement of science and scholarship in Norway.

The Academy has Norwegian and foreign members (250 and 160 seats respectively), as well as honorary members. Only members of the Academy are entitled to propose candidates for membership, which is based solely on the candidates' scientific achievements. The members are divided into two sections: Mathematics and Natural Sciences and Humanities and Social Sciences.

In last December 2018, the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters congratulated and warmly welcome newest members: the laureates of the Academy’s international prizes, the Kavli Prize and the Abel Prize. These laureates became new members of the Academy, following tradition and contributing to the international spirit of the institution.

Christine Petit, laureate of the prestigious 2018 Kavli Prize in Neuroscience (see the newsletter of June 8, 2018) and a Professor at the Institut Pasteur and the Collège de France, is now a new member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.
