Groupama Foundation: a new sponsor for the Institut Pasteur

In November 2018, the Groupama Foundation dedicated to tackling rare diseases signed a sponsorship agreement to support the development of a new gene therapy approach aimed at patients with myotonic dystrophy, or Steinert disease. The project is led by Dr. Guy-Franck Richard, a Research Director in the Dynamics of the Genome Unit at the Institut Pasteur.

The Groupama Foundation was set up in 2000 to mark Groupama's centenary. A rare or orphan disease is one that affects fewer than one in 2,000 people. In France, nearly 3 million people suffer from such conditions, but there is still a lack of medical and scientific knowledge about them. The Groupama Foundation has chosen to concentrate its efforts in three areas: research, informing professionals and the general public, and supporting patients. Since it was set up, the Foundation has provided funding for more than 160 charities and more than 600 projects – which now include Dr. Guy-Franck Richard's project on Steinert disease.
