Upcoming "Creating your own company" session on April 12

Every month, the Education Department, the MAASCC welcome and support structure for contract researchers and the Research Applications and Industrial Relations Department run an event offering scientists interested in business development the chance to meet a leading figure and entrepreneur in the area of biotechnology. The aim is to encourage those interested in setting up their own company.

This event, entitled "Creating your own company", takes the form of a breakfast meeting on the first Tuesday of each month.

The next session will take place on Tuesday April 12 from 8.30 to 10.30am in room 28-01-01A of the François Jacob building.

dsc_0154.jpg The leading figure will be Ray Schinazi, Professor at Emory University (Atlanta) and Director of its Laboratory of Biochemical Pharmacology. He is also the founder of Pharmasset (sold to Gilead for $11bn), Triangle Pharmaceuticals (acquired by Gilead in 2003), Idenix Pharmaceuticals (51% acquired by Novartis in 2003 for $250m and bought out by Merck in 2014 for $3.8bn), and RFS Pharma LLC.

He helped to develop several key treatments for HIV and Hepatitis C and is a world leader in the area of nucleoside chemistry.
