Report on the fire drill conducted by the Paris Fire Department

A fire drill was conducted by the Paris Fire Department (BSPP) on the Institut Pasteur campus on Friday October 25, 2019.

Several fire engines and firefighters from the BSPP were involved in the drill, which simulated a fire in the Laveran building. During the exercise, firefighters from the BSPP removed a victim from the smoke-filled basement and evacuated an individual stuck on the third floor. The Technical Resources and Environment Department, which is responsible for organizing this annual drill, would like to thank all the occupants of the building targeted by the exercise.

The drill was an opportunity to demonstrate areas where progress has been made.

These include the role of fire wardens. We would remind you that the primary task of fire wardens is to evacuate the building's occupants and guide them to the assembly point. They are responsible for checking the entire area to make sure that everyone has been evacuated, and closing the doors behind them.

Fire wardens also have a role to play at the assembly point: they need to make sure that everyone who was in their area is accounted for, including any external visitors; check that no one leaves the assembly point; and report to the external emergency services.
