Medical Mycology: new Institut Pasteur MOOC coming soon on the FUN platform

Fungus is everywhere! It plays a major role in our ecosystem, as a key decomposer of organic matter and a producer of antibiotics and mycotoxins, but is also responsible for infections in humans and animals.

Fungal diseases currently affect more than a billion people and result in at least a million deaths every year. The high prevalence of fungal diseases is caused by a significant increase in opportunities for interaction between fungi and their hosts.

The Medical Mycology MOOC provides an overview of the basic concepts in fungal taxonomy and ecology. It will guide you through the various approaches for identifying fungi. You will hear about the main developments in invasive fungal diseases and subcutaneous mycoses, new populations at risk, and emerging factors involved in the development of these diseases. A number of topics related to antifungal drugs will be covered, and finally you will also learn about the natural history of fungal diseases with a section on infections associated with HIV.

This MOOC is aimed at anyone with prior knowledge of microbiology at Bachelor level (scientists, doctors, qualified nurses, hospital pharmacists, people working on diagnostic kits or antifungal drugs, etc.).

Save the date for this MOOC, which will run from October 1 to December 20, 2021. Registration will open on September 3.
