Cycling and online generosity: feedback on the Emmaüs collection and bike-themed Green Café

The Institut Pasteur is home to a dynamic, active community. Two recent examples are the Emmaüs collection and the bike-themed activities at the recent Green Café.

•    Emmaüs collection

A huge thank you to all those who contributed to the Emmaüs collection on October 1 and 2 and helped turn the initiative into a great success! The Digital section in the GreenTeam collected several devices:

  • 5 tablets
  • 9 smartphones
  • 16 laptops

Half were work devices and the other half were personal devices. Once the Information Systems Department has decommissioned the work devices, all the equipment will be given to Emmaüs - Connect to be reconditioned and sold to people in need at low prices.

If you have any questions about the collection, please email collecte-emmaus@pasteur.fr.

•    Bike-themed Green Café: cycle more to reduce your carbon footprint and improve your health!

At the Green Café on October 9 on promoting cycling at the Institut Pasteur, Nathalie Duval from the Corporate Social Responsibility Department reminded us of the many benefits of cycling, not only for the environment – it reduces pollution and greenhouse gas emissions – but also for physical and mental health.

On average, cycling prevents emissions of more than 300kg of Co2e per year compared with daily car use, and 30 minutes of cycling a day reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases by 30%.

Mental health has also become a key public health challenge – it was the focus of a major national campaign in 2025, and World Mental Health Day took place on October 10.

At the bike-themed Green Café, Nathalie Duval spoke about the initiatives to promote cycling at the Institut Pasteur. Back in June, these measures were recognized with a bronze medal in the national "Objectif Employeur Pro Vélo" (Becoming a Pro-Cycling Employer – OEPV) program and the award of European Cycle-Friendly Employer certification. An action plan to promote cycling over the coming years was also presented. This Green Café was an opportunity to encourage everyone to discover – or rediscover – the pleasure of cycling, especially cycling to work, and its many benefits for the environment and for our health and well-being!
