Appointment of Samuel Valcke as Vice-President Legal Affairs

As previously announced (see the March 9 edition of the newsletter), during its meeting on March 5 the Institut Pasteur Board of Directors approved the appointment of Samuel Valcke as Vice-President Legal Affairs. He will take office on June 4. Anne-Laure Morin, currently acting Vice-President Legal Affairs, will remain your contact person until that date.

samuel-valcke.png Samuel Valcke, an expert in public law, began his career at the CNRS as a legal expert before becoming head of the department in charge of the legal supervision of academic and industrial research partnerships and the transfer of public research results. He became Deputy Director of the CNRS Legal Affairs Department in 2001.

The second major phase of his career took him to the French Blood Service (EFS), where he was appointed as Director of Legal Affairs in 2005. As a Member of the Board of Directors, he led and was involved in several projects at the only civilian blood transfusion agency in France. These included securing the plasma sector, supporting the service's entry into the competitive sector following the reclassification of certain blood products as drugs, and setting up a platform for the production of drugs developed using innovative therapies and designed for clinical applications. In addition, as Data Privacy Officer he supervised the service's procedures to comply with the new European data protection regulations. In 2016, Samuel Valcke was also appointed as Ethics Officer of the EFS, a role that for three years gave him responsibility for supervising the procedures in place for declaring vested interests and preventing conflicts of interest within the EFS.
