Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
In February 2018, in response to the growing need among Institut Pasteur scientists for tools to carry out their clinical and epidemiological research, the Information Systems Department, in conjunction with several units on campus concerned by this issue as well as some of the institutes in the Institut Pasteur International Network, began offering a new service, the REDCap solution for electronic case report forms (eCRFs).
After nearly a year, 110 active users, 29 projects in production, 42 projects in development and 10 research teams are making use of this web application, which offers secure data stored at the Institut Pasteur. Increasing numbers of scientists at the Institut Pasteur, both in France and abroad, are using REDCap.
In November 2018, the Institut Pasteur in Cambodia decided to train up several of its staff in using the tool. Fourteen staff members from the Epidemiology and Public Health team and the Medical Laboratory were given training in how to use REDCap, under the supervision of Marie Sanchez, the REDCap coordinator in the Information Systems Department. The aim is to teach the teams how to create and maintain databases, generate reports, export data and also use the mobile application.
The training will enable the teams at the Institut Pasteur in Cambodia to step up their use of REDCap for projects such as TA-PROHM (a study on neonatal transmission of hepatitis B) and ASPA (a clinical study on aspergilloma) and to launch new projects such as MicroRNA, a study on HIV and tuberculosis coinfection.
This unprecedented demand for training shows the interest generated by REDCap among the Institut Pasteur scientific community, and demonstrates just how beneficial a shared tool can be for the Institut Pasteur and the institutes in its network.
