2020 Institut Pasteur logo: a punchy, modern new look

The Institut Pasteur enjoys considerable national and international visibility. It also has a prestigious institutional image, driven by its charismatic founder, countless major discoveries over the past 130 years, and its core values of humanitarianism, universalism, perseverance and sharing knowledge.

But the Institut Pasteur nevertheless has challenges to overcome in terms of its external communications strategy, and it regularly needs to modernize its image to keep step with changing times. The Institut Pasteur is committed to implementing a strategic communications policy and promoting a contemporary image as a means of strengthening its visibility in France and abroad, maintaining the trust of its various stakeholders and attracting outstanding talent. As part of this ongoing drive to modernize its image, the Institut Pasteur decided to change its logotype (or logo) in 2020.

A logo reflects the brand image of any association, institution or organization and plays a key role in conveying its values. It contributes to a visual identity and is strategically placed on all communication materials. It is regularly included on the agenda of discussions about the ambitions of a given brand or company. While remaining clear and identifiable, logos generally undergo a natural graphical evolution over time to reflect the organization's development and ambitions.

The Institut Pasteur's Department of Communications and Fundraising, in cooperation with the senior management team, the Senior Management Board and the Board of Directors, has therefore been working on developing the logotype in such a way that it effectively conveys the Institut Pasteur's identity.

Several changes have been made to create a logo that is more powerful, impactful and modern. Following on from its predecessor, the 2020 Institut Pasteur logo is still composed of the Greek letter Phi (ϕ), but with sleeker lines and the dot removed. The logo gains in clarity and visibility with the choice of font and the use of capital letters for "Institut Pasteur".

The new logo was installed this week at the various campus entrances, on rue du Docteur Roux and at the two entrances on rue de Vaugirard, including the Medical Center entrance.

It has already been added to several brochures and stationery items, as well as to the website pasteur.fr, Webcampus, social media and, as you have probably noticed, this edition of the newsletter.

The 2020 Institut Pasteur logo will be gradually implemented throughout this year on all institutional materials to reflect the adoption of this new visual identity.

The Institut Pasteur also made the most of the opportunity offered by the official inauguration of the Hearing Institute on February 27 (read the article about the inauguration) to unveil the new logo at the opening ceremony, attended by Prime Minister Édouard Philippe. This was a great way to give the new Institut Pasteur 2020 logo the visibility it deserves from the outset!

A simple guide presenting the logo and explaining how to use it has been produced for Institut Pasteur staff. This document sets out the basics on how to use and position the logo and how to display it alongside partner logos. It presents the different iterations of the logo that have been designed so that it can be displayed alongside the logos of labels, internal programs, etc. The guide also provides a summary of the Institut Pasteur's graphic standard.

You can find the guide and a number of institutional tools on the dedicated Webcampus page. You can download the logo, access standard letter templates, request business cards, use the institutional PowerPoint presentation and incorporate an electronic signature into your emails. A whole series of documents have already adopted the new logo. We're counting on you to become its ambassadors!

The Department of Communications and Fundraising is available to guide you through the use of the logo and the implementation of the graphic standard in your communication materials. Feel free to contact charte@pasteur.fr.
