WOMEN AND SCIENCE

International Day of Women and Girls in Science: celebrating the Institut Pasteur's female scientists

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is an opportunity to promote equal access to and participation in science for women and girls. Organized by the UN on February 11 each year, the day reminds us that women and girls play a key role in science and technology communities and that efforts need to be made to strengthen their participation and leadership.

The Institut Pasteur is committed to gender equality and has embarked on a number of initiatives that have led to real progress. In particular, it received the European HR Excellence in Research Award in recognition of its implementation of the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) in 2021, it published a Gender Equality Plan (GEP) in 2022, and it has established a dedicated Employee Resources Group (ERG). More recently, in anticipation of February 11 and at the request of Yasmine Belkaid, the Institut Pasteur became France's first academic research institute to establish a Department for Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) – a decision that will have a real impact and that demonstrates the Institut Pasteur's determination to pursue its gender equality commitments and to boost the visibility and encourage the participation of women in science.

On the occasion of her recent appointment, Yasmine Belkaid spoke to a number of journalists, including those from Le Figaro, about her career as a woman, a determined researcher and a hard worker. She shares her vision, her ambitions and the role she will play in serving science and bringing together all its players in the service of a common project.
