Register for the updated edition of the "Resistance to antibacterial agents

The Institut Pasteur MOOC on "Resistance to antibacterial agents" is available again on the FUN MOOC platform until March 14, 2023.

Since its first edition in 2018, this MOOC has undergone significant changes. More than two thirds of the 32 sessions have been re-recorded or added. This revamp has enabled the overall scientific content of the MOOC to be updated. There is now a greater focus on the One Health aspect of antibiotic resistance, highlighting the role of the use of antibiotics in livestock and the importance of the environment and wastewater in the emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance. European epidemiology and the first results of a policy to limit the prescription of antibiotics in both hospitals and community medicine are also analyzed in detail. New research to bring novel anti-infectives to market is presented, even though pharmaceutical companies are slow on the uptake in this area because of low profitability.

This MOOC is part of the PROMISE project that was established following the call for proposals from the French National Research Agency (ANR) for the antibiotic resistance priority research program (PPR). PROMISE is a meta-network of professionals committed to tackling antibiotic resistance in human and animal health and in the environment, led by Inserm and supported by the University of Limoges. The aim is to foster synergies by establishing a One Health community that enables academic networks/teams to share best practices and expertise and to coordinate their action.

The "Resistance to antibacterial agents" MOOC is a key means of sharing knowledge within the PROMISE project. It complements the new University Diploma on "Antibiotic Resistance and One Health" introduced in 2023 by Professor Marie-Cécile Ploy from the University of Limoges.

The MOOC is used in the "Emerging Infectious Diseases" Graduate School (EUR 1H-EID) established following the French government's fourth Investing in the Future call for proposals and led by Université Paris Cité in association with the Institut Pasteur, Sorbonne University and EnvA (the Alfort National Veterinary School). The MOOC is also a key training program in the Antimicrobial Resistance (AntiRes) Graduate School led by UPCité, the aim of which is to develop a hub for training through research on antimicrobial resistance.
