Gonzalo Moratorio from the Institut Pasteur de Montevideo named by Nature as one of the ten people who helped shape science in 2020

In the 2020 edition of its annual list of ten people who helped shape science, the scientific journal Nature recognized the work of Gonzalo Moratorio, who leads a laboratory at the Institut Pasteur de Montevideo, for his effective response to COVID-19 in Uruguay.

Uruguay continues to record one of the lowest mortality rates in the world, and this impressive response can be partly attributed to Gonzalo Moratorio and his colleagues, who designed a test to detect SARS-CoV-2 and a national program to administer it.
