A reminder of the rules governing freedom of expression in the workplace

The Human Resources Department would like to remind you of a number of principles and rules concerning freedom of expression, which govern our collective life and apply to all of us in the workplace.

• Freedom of expression is a fundamental freedom guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights and specified, in French law and in the professional context, by the Labor Code. Management is deeply committed to respecting this fundamental freedom, in particular in the Institut Pasteur workplace.

• However, like all freedoms, freedom of expression has its limits, particularly in the workplace. The unrestricted exercise of freedom of expression can lead to abuses with negative, damaging and sometimes serious consequences for one or more individuals, or even the collective to which they belong. Management is determined to prevent such abuses, and will therefore be particularly vigilant with regard to any act or behavior likely to be legally qualified as such, in particular:
          - The expression of opinions in the workplace must not be of a defamatory, discriminatory, hateful or insulting nature;

          - The expression of opinions in the workplace must not threaten cohesion, respect between employees and the maintenance of peaceful relations within the establishment;

         - The e-mail address, composed of firstname.name@pasteur.fr, is strictly professional and must not be used in any other context or for any other purpose than to enable the performance of professional duties.

The principles and rules set out above are specified in the texts governing our collective life, in particular:
•    The Company Agreement of January 21, 2003;

•   Institut Pasteur's Internal Regulations of February 1, 2019, and certain of its appendices, in particular Institut Pasteur's IT Charter (April 2021 edition);

•    Institut Pasteur's Code of Conduct, November 2024.

The Human Resources Department, in liaison with the other departments concerned and under the authority of General Management, will scrupulously ensure that these principles are applied.
