Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
After the first round of legislative elections, Yves Saint-Geours, Chairman of the Board of Governors, and Yasmine Belkaid, President of Institut Pasteur, sent the following message to Pasteurian:
“ Dear All,
Yesterday we discovered the outcome of the first round of the legislative elections with very deep sadness and very strong concern.
In these troubled times, we wish to reaffirm the values to which we are both personally committed and to which our institution is also deeply attached: openness to the world and the free movement of people, the search for truth and scientific rigor, but also tolerance, ethics and humanism. Many of us within the scientific community have expressed these values over the past few days, by signing for example this collective column (in French) published in Le Monde on Sunday June 23.
You can count on our determination to defend these principles in every way we can, and to support those within our institute and beyond who may suffer if they are called into question. We are thinking especially of the Pasteurians of foreign nationality or origin who work on our campus, who contribute so much to its daily life, and who are today legitimately worried about the political situation in our country. We are also thinking of those of us who belong to minorities, who are already fighting for recognition of our rights, and who are anxiously awaiting the outcome of next Sunday's elections. We want to tell you one thing: we are and will remain at your side.
Science is born of diversity. It is the tree on which it blooms and the fruit from which it feeds. The history of our institute is living testimony to this. Today, more than ever, we must keep this truth in mind and fight to ensure that it is heard and respected."
Furthermore, Yasmine Belkaid, President of Institut Pasteur, reaffirmed her commitment to and vigilance in respecting the major principles that make up our collective identity in an article published in Le Monde on Thursday 4 July 2024
