Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
The Institut Pasteur is pleased to invite you to the official unveiling of the newly installed Titan KriosTM electron microscope. This event will take place on July 12 at 5.30pm in the CIS auditorium.
The availability of this high-performance microscope, one of the most powerful in the world, is a valuable asset for excellence and scientific competitiveness in the field of structural biology for all Institut Pasteur researchers, as well as for any Institut Pasteur partners that may use the microscope. Based on a transmission electron microscopy technique that involves the rapid freezing of biological samples, the Titan KriosTM microscope offers a more precise visualization of the complex biological processes that take place within cells.
The installation of this ultra-high-resolution microscope is a key part of the CACSICE project (Center for the Analysis of Complex Systems in Complex Environments), led by a consortium composed of the Institut Pasteur, the CNRS and Paris Descartes University, which in 2011 secured an "Equipex" ("Equipment of Excellence") grant in connection with the French government's Investing in the Future Programs.
For the Institut Pasteur, which is celebrating its 130th anniversary this year, the acquisition of the Titan KriosTM microscope, its installation in a dedicated facility, and the recruitment of experts specializing in cryo-electron microscopy demonstrate its ambition to remain at the forefront of innovation for health.
We hope that lots of you will come along on July 12 to see the unveiling of this major contribution to the excellence of the Institut Pasteur's research.
In conjunction with this event and with the aim of sharing knowledge in this field, a scientific conference will be held on July 12 and 13 and will be attended by several prestigious international scientists, including Nobel Prize laureate Chemistry Ada Yonath from Weizmann Institute (Israel) and Wolfgang Baumeister from Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (Germany) as Keynote speakers.
