Scientific computing ressources at Institut Pasteur

The Information Systems Department offers an HPC (High Performance Computing) service known as TARS, currently composed of 380 servers and more than 4,800 cores. The computing nodes represent several categories to meet a wide variety of needs. Since the technology is constantly developing, two generations of nodes co-exist:

This infrastructure has privileged high-bandwidth access with storage systems like Atlas (up to 10GB/s per server). The Information Systems Department has also set up a storage space with improved performance but limited to 150TB, based on all-flash arrays from the company Pure Storage (/pasteur/scratch).

The Information Systems Department maintains an up-to-date range of bioinformatics software. Various versions of each program are available. A catalog of this software is available online. Items can be added to the catalog on request by contacting the department (informatique@pasteur.fr). In addition to software, the Information Systems Department offers a range of reference data (GenBank, FASTA index, etc.). The list can be consulted at https://biomaj.pasteur.fr.

Usage statistics for the HPC cluster are available online.

Before using this infrastructure, we would ask that you first complete a MOOC developed by the Information Systems Department. Once you have confirmed your knowledge by completing the MOOC questionnaire, you can simply send a request to informatique@pasteur.fr to set up your account.

The Information Systems Department has compiled a user list (cluster-users@pasteur.fr) to keep all users informed of developments to the HPC. The MOOC also includes a Wiki with answers to the most frequently asked questions.

Units needing extensive computing capacity may also be given their own nodes, based on the configurations outlined above, which will be integrated into the HPC and maintained by the Information Systems Department.

These units will have immediate priority access to these nodes.
