2019 Brain Awareness Week – come along to the CIS on March 16

The 21st edition of Brain Awareness Week will take place from March 11 to 17, 2019. To mark this initiative, for the sixth year running, the Institut Pasteur will be holding a lecture and debate for the general public on the topic of brain disorders. This event will take place on the Paris campus on March 16, 2019, from 2 to 5pm in the CIS.

What are the obstacles facing basic research, clinical practice, biotechnology, neuropharmaceutical industries, start-ups, therapeutic applications and ethical and political debates in the field of brain disorders? Doctors, scientists and industry stakeholders are producing vast quantities of scientific and technological knowledge – so why does therapeutic progress appear to be so slow from the perspective of the general public and especially patients?

This event will look at clinical practice, neuroscience, the neurobiotechnology and neuropharmaceutical industries, and also translational research.

Neurologists, psychiatrists, industry figures and neurobiologists will describe the obstacles facing their work and discuss the priorities that need to be targeted if they are to work more effectively together and develop lasting partnerships. Speakers will include:

  • Yves Agid, neurologist and Emeritus Professor at the ICM (Brain and Spinal Cord Institute), Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital (neurological disorders and glial tumors)

  • Claudine Brisard, Director of the Central Nervous System Medical Management Group at Syneos Health (neurodegeneration, pain, psychiatry)

  • Deniz Dalkara, Vision Institute (Institut de la Vision), Paris, Inserm U968 (sight restoration)

  • Chantal Henry, psychiatrist and scientist at the Institut Pasteur (Perception and Memory Unit) (psychiatric disorders)

  • Christine Petit, geneticist, Professor at the Collège de France, Professor at the Institut Pasteur, Director of the Hearing Institute (Institut de l'Audition) in Paris (hearing restoration)

  • Alain Perez, journalist specializing in medical research for the Théragora website and event facilitator

This event is open to Pasteurians. Enrolment is obligatory, but free for everyone (yourself, your family and your friends); please contact Gilles Gheusi at ggheusi@gmail.com. For access you will need your badge and proof or identity for you and your guests.
