Dealing with possible censorship: alternatives to PubMed?

Following the recent decisions by the Trump administration to ban research on certain topics and to take down entire pages of government websites related to research that is no longer permitted or goes against government policy, many people are expressing legitimate concerns about the future of the PubMed database.

What is the new administration ultimately planning to do with PubMed? Do they intend to:
•    Restrict access?
•    Stop maintaining it?
•    Change the indexing rules for journals and ban articles covering prohibited topics?
•    Or enable the indiscriminate indexation of any articles from any journals?

No one can say with any certainty at this stage, but previous decisions lead us to think that such measures may be envisaged. So it is a good idea to prepare for the fact that PubMed may stop being the leading database for health literature, and to look for alternatives.

The CeRIS has drawn up a page presenting possible alternatives, together with a brief description of the potential risks that could also affect these databases.

Please feel free to contact the CeRIS at bibliotheque@pasteur.fr if you have any questions or need help using the alternatives.
