Mental health of early career scientists: launch of the 2023 edition of the anonymous, confidential questionnaire

This year's edition of the anonymous and confidential internal survey for all postdoctoral fellows and PhD students at the Institut Pasteur will run from March 15 to 29.

The aim is to assess stress levels and their impact on the health of early career scientists.

Following the first edition conducted in 2022, for which the results and action plan were recently reported in the newsletter, the Institut Pasteur intends to make this a long-term initiative and is keen to conduct the survey on a regular basis.
The Occupational Health and Prevention Department will therefore be giving early career scientists at the Institut Pasteur the opportunity to complete a new mental health survey from March 15 to 29, 2023.

The entire Institut Pasteur community of postdoctoral fellows and PhD students are invited by the Occupational Health and Prevention Department to complete the 2023 edition of the questionnaire.

It is important for each and every one of you to take part, even if you completed the survey in 2022.

The questionnaire is designed to assess several aspects: perceived stress level, its impact on health and daily routine, and potential areas for improvement. At the end of the questionnaire, an automatically calculated score will give you an idea of where you are on the Perceived Stress Scale.
The score obtained has no diagnostic value in itself; it serves as a pointer and you are advised to seek medical advice by contacting either the Occupational Health Department or an external professional for an individual assessment.

All responses will be processed in full compliance with medical confidentiality principles.

Supported by the management team and led by the Occupational Health and Prevention Department, this survey is one of the Institut Pasteur's preventive healthcare initiatives, with a particular focus on the mental health of early career scientists. The initiative was developed collaboratively following an initial request from representatives of early career scientists, postdoctoral fellows and PhD students.

In practice:

• The survey began on March 15 and will run until March 29, 2023.

• The questionnaire can be accessed on a smartphone and answers can be provided in French or English.

• The time needed to complete the questionnaire is less than 10 minutes.
