New organizational structure for the Department of International Affairs

The Department of International Affairs is committed to developing the international reach and attractiveness of the Institut Pasteur and the Institut Pasteur International Network through an approach based on global solidarity.

It has devised an international strategy for the Institut Pasteur that has been approved by the senior management team and the Board of Directors. The department is implementing the strategy in conjunction with the other departments and research units. It serves as an interface between the International Network and the departments and research units, and coordinates the Institut Pasteur's representation on the governing bodies of member institutes in the International Network.

It supports the development of the Institut Pasteur International Network to serve the health of populations and research in the field of health. It contributes to the work of the International Network through support and coordination measures and dedicated mechanisms. To this end, it provides executive leadership for the Pasteur International Network Association and coordinates projects within a jointly developed and applicable scientific strategy that maximizes the strengths and specific characteristics of the International Network in a global context.

Through its close relations with the International Network and its expertise in the field of international relations, the Department of International Affairs is able to identify opportunities for cooperation involving national, European and/or international partnerships and to develop tools to support the Institut Pasteur's four main missions (research, health, education and innovation).

Working with the Department of Communications and Fundraising, it helps strengthen the visibility of the international action taken by the Institut Pasteur and the International Network via national and international stakeholders in the field of research and global health.

  • Organizational chart of the Department of International Affairs

The organizational chart of the Department of International Affairs meets three objectives:

  1. To clarify the roles and tasks of each member of the department and leverage individual expertise

  2. To develop an organizational structure that enables the department to achieve its missions, drawing on the Institut Pasteur's strong international skills

  3. To create areas of expertise that facilitate the effective implementation of the goals of the Strategic Plan

This organizational structure is based on four functional areas and an administrative coordination unit that serves as an intermediary between the Institut Pasteur's administrative departments and the institutes in the International Network in the areas of human resources, finance and legal aspects.

It acknowledges the singular nature of the department's twofold role, namely both to serve as a political/institutional intermediary with external partners, primarily the member institutes in the International Network, and to support the strengthening of capabilities and the joint development of major health research programs in close cooperation with these partners.

Finally, it promotes a cross-cutting approach between the functional areas through the introduction of geographical coordination and the successive involvement of each area at key points in the preparation and monitoring of operations.

The relationship with the Pasteur International Network Association has been clarified and strengthened to avoid creating situations of competition between the two structures. Several members of the Department of International Affairs will be asked to dedicate a proportion of their time to the Association for the implementation of joint measures in line with the strategies adopted by its governing bodies (Board of Directors and General Assembly).
