Conclusion of the mandatory annual negotiations

The mandatory annual negotiations for 2020 between the management team and trade unions were recently concluded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding containing several important measures:

1/ A budget of 2.2% of payroll is allocated for the 2020 financial year.

This budget is broken down as follows:

• 2% for individual pay rises, which will come into effect on April 1, 2020.

• 0.20% for a rise in seniority bonuses, the application of minimum career progress increments due in 2020, and promotions.

A specific budget of 0.10% of payroll is allocated for wage increases and adjustments

2/ One-off bonus

In response to the option for companies to pay a one-off bonus (exempt from tax and social security contributions) to improve purchasing power in 2020, it was decided to give the following bonuses to employees whose remuneration in 2019 was less than three times the annual value of the growth-indexed minimum wage (based on a year of full-time work):

• €500 for salaries below €27 K

• €400 for salaries over €27 K and below €36 K

• €300 for salaries between €36 K and €55.4 K

A bonus of €250 will be paid to all employees not eligible for the Macron bonus (with salaries above €55.4 K).

These bonuses will be paid together with the March 2020 salary.

3/ Platform, Collection and Publication responsibility bonus

The responsibility bonus paid to Platform, Collection and Publication heads is increased to €2,000/year (an increase of €500).

4/ Maximum length of fixed-term contracts for scientists – article 35a: increased to 72 months
The maximum length of fixed-term contracts for scientists, currently 54 months under the company agreement (article 35), may now be extended to 72 months in specific and exceptional circumstances. This provision is laid down in a new article 35a which outlines the specific terms under which exceptions to the general framework are authorized.

More information, including the dates and arrangements for implementation, can be found in the memorandum of understanding concluding the annual negotiations.

A new profit-sharing agreement was also signed on January 9 by unions and the Institut Pasteur management team.
