2019-2023 STRATEGIC PLAN

New green spaces and bioclimatic plan

Given the need to adapt to climate change and the challenges this raises, Paris City Council has reviewed its Local Urban Plan to prepare more effectively for these future developments, which will involve different regulations for building and local planning.

In connection with its real estate and landscape master plan, and in a bid to anticipate and respond to future challenges in the bioclimatic Local Urban Plan adopted by Paris City Council, the Institut Pasteur management team is keen to:

•    Open up the Institut Pasteur to Paris and become a major player in the Paris Climate Action Biodiversity Charter by introducing large areas of greenery and green spaces on campus.

•    Improve the working and living environment for Institut Pasteur staff and local residents.

•    Clarify how the site is used to support excellence in research and promote a cross-sector approach.

Among the major projects in the real estate master plan, the Institut Pasteur is therefore planning to develop a "Traverse Jardin," a garden crossing both parts of campus, by 2030. Intended as a large space to develop daily life and interactions on campus and offering significant gains in green spaces and ground for planting, this garden is a key element in the replanting strategy for campus.

The Traverse Jardin project will involve four phases of work between now and 2030:

Phase 1: North Campus – Landscaped stretch and central spaces;
Phase 2: North Campus – West and East Wings;
Phase 3: South Campus – Landscaped stretch and West Wing;
Phase 4: South Campus – East Wing.

The area of campus at 28 rue du Docteur Roux is the first to be affected by this landscaping work as part of Phase 1. The initial work began on Monday May 22 in front of the greenhouse*:

The work planned for Phase 1 will involve three successive stages:

Mid-May to mid-June: roadworks and work to create green spaces in front of the greenhouse

October and November: roadworks and work to create green spaces between the CIS and the Émile Roux pavilion and also between the greenhouse and the Émile Duclaux building

• December 2023 to January 2024: roadworks and work to create green spaces between the Omics building and the reception by the Rue de Vaugirard entrance.

The newsletter team will keep you informed of the progress in this project, which is set to be completed in 2030.

*The project involves felling three trees that have been recognized as being in poor health in the short or medium term. The Prefecture authorized the felling of these trees following the prior declaration of work.
