International Prize in Global Health awarded to an Institut Pasteur scientist

•    2022 International Prize in Global Health awarded to Guilherme Dias de Melo

On May 12, 2022, the Franco-German University (FGU), the Institut Mérieux and the pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim jointly set up an International Prize in Global Health. The award, endowed with €20,000, recognizes outstanding research aimed at improving global public health.

The prize goes to a scientist conducting recognized, innovative research in the field. The goal is to strengthen international dialog on issues related to human, animal and environmental health and to showcase the diversity of French and German research in these areas.

This year, for its first edition, the prize was awarded to Guilherme Dias de Melo from the Lyssavirus Epidemiology and Neuropathology Unit at a ceremony at Université Lumière Lyon 2 on October 12. Guilherme Dias de Melo's research focuses on the spatio-temporal dynamics of neurotropic viral infections, especially bornavirus, rabies and SARS-CoV-2, and their transmission from animals to humans.
