Fighting Drug Resistant Malaria: The K13 gene

The Department of Communications, working in collaboration with the company Grand Angle, has recently produced a film entitled Lutter contre la résistance du paludisme aux médicaments: Le gène K13 (Fighting Drug Resistant Malaria: The K13 gene). This video is intended for broadcast on the web and is a valuable addition to the Institut Pasteur's YouTube channel. As well as images from endemic areas, the video features two interviews: one with Didier Fontenille, Director of the Institut Pasteur in Cambodia, and the other with Didier Ménard, Head of the Molecular Epidemiology of Malaria Unit at the Institut Pasteur in Cambodia and Head of the Joint Unit for Translational Research on Malaria at the Institut Pasteur in Cambodia/Institut Pasteur in Paris.

The past 15 years have seen remarkable progress in the fight against malaria. Although scientists welcome this improvement, they are becoming increasingly concerned by the observed increase in parasite resistance to available drugs, especially artemisinin.
