Research

Any biology textbook will tell you that the AIDS virus (HIV) has nine genes. The existence of a tenth gene, asp, was suggested in the late 1980s but remained a point of contention. However, this claim has recently been confirmed by scientists from the CNRS and the Institut Pasteur, who compared 23,000 sequences of HIV and SIV (the equivalent of HIV in non-human primates).

The Department of Communications has recently produced a film entitled Lutter contre la résistance du paludisme aux médicaments: Le gène K13 (Fighting Drug Resistant Malaria: The K13 gene).

The first structure of a member of an essential DNA polymerase family (polD) found in archaea, one of the three main 'domains' of life, was recently determined by crystallography by a team involving scientists from the CNRS, the Institut Pasteur and IFREMER.

Partnership

On Wednesday October 19, 2016, Marie-Christine Saragosse, Chief Executive Officer of France Médias Monde, and Christian Bréchot, President of the Institut Pasteur, signed a framework partnership agreement which provides for the organization of joint communications campaigns and the exchange of content.
