All you need to know about Training Through Research at the Institut Pasteur

Find out all you need to know about the Training Through Research (CIFRE) procedure at the Institut Pasteur: the basic principle, the conditions and how the scheme works in practice.

The CIFRE scheme (Industrial Agreements for Training Through Research) offers co-funding for companies willing to recruit PhD students for a specific research project in line with their R&D strategy. This company-based placement serves as a platform for the student to complete his or her PhD thesis, in accordance with the French decree of August 7, 2006 on doctoral training.

The research project is carried out in collaboration with an external research laboratory, which is responsible for providing scientific supervision for the PhD student.

Each CIFRE contract is signed for a maximum period of 36 months.

The CIFRE contract is a collaboration agreement with a specific scientific subject. The PhD student is employed by the company, which continues to pay his or her salary in full.

The PhD student divides his or her time between the company and the laboratory on the basis of a timetable drawn up in a collaboration agreement signed by the legal representatives of the company and the research laboratory.
