Upcoming MOOCs: note the dates

  • Registration opens on October 19 for the "Malaria" MOOC

As part of the ongoing development of its online training, the Institut Pasteur has set up a MOOC on malaria, a disease which remains a major public health threat and claims more than 400,000 lives each year. Although the widespread use of currently available malaria control measures has led to a considerable reduction in the spread of the disease over the past decade, the elimination of malaria in highly endemic regions remains a distant prospect.

In view of this situation, the Institut Pasteur has developed a MOOC on malaria, with the aim of giving learners an overview of the wide variety of disciplines involved and the issues currently being investigated in malaria research. Topics covered in the MOOC range from the molecular and cellular biology of the parasite and its different life cycles to field- and hospital-based clinical research on the disease. It looks at the latest genome techniques used to examine the biology of the parasite and investigates advances in translational research for the development of new malaria control tools, including medication and vaccines. The course also covers the epidemiology of malaria and clinical research, helping learners grasp how malaria has become a major public health issue.

The MOOC is aimed at a broad and varied audience including healthcare and public health professionals, microbiologists, scientists, students in life sciences, physicians, nurses, etc.
We hope lots of you will sign up!

  • Registration opens on October 12 for the "Managing quality in medical test laboratories" MOOC

The Department of Education and the Quality, Environment and Sustainable Development Department in the Technical Resources and Environment Department are pleased to inform you that the "Managing quality in medical test laboratories" MOOC is being rerun.

The MOOC is now open for registration on the FUN platform and will be available from October 12 to December 22, 2020.

This free online course, open to all, was developed in connection with the Quality Initiative launched by the Mérieux Foundation in partnership with the Institut Pasteur's Quality, Environment and Sustainable Development Department. The partnership reflects the growing cooperation between the Mérieux Foundation and the Institut Pasteur.

The aim of the MOOC is to raise awareness among medical test laboratory staff of the importance of managing quality, understanding the workings of the ISO 15189 standard and being familiar with the methods and tools needed to introduce a quality management system, especially in developing countries.
