2022 Institut Pasteur Young Scientist Prize, Duquesne Award: several Institut Pasteur scientists recognized

•    2022 Institut Pasteur Young Scientist Prize

In 2018, the Institut Pasteur introduced the Institut Pasteur Young Scientist Prize. The award, established to mark the Institut Pasteur's 130th anniversary, is presented each year to a PhD student and a post-doctoral fellow who were first authors of high-level research papers published during the year.

This year, the prize was awarded at the Institut Pasteur Young Scientists Conference to three early career scientists for their respective research:

Fabien Aubry, for his paper "Enhanced Zika virus susceptibility of globally invasive Aedes aegypti populations". Science. 2020 Nov 20;370(6519):991-996.

Adrià Sogues Castrejon, for his paper "Essential dynamic interdependence of FtsZ and SepF for Z-ring and septum formation in Corynebacterium glutamicum". Nat Commun. 2020 Jun 4;12(1):3214.

Cécile Tran Kiem, for her article "Estimating the burden of SARS-CoV-2 in France". Science. 2020 Jul 10;369(6500):208-211.

 

•    Olivier Schwartz, winner of the 2022 Duquesne Award

The René & Andrée Duquesne Award reflects Andrée Duquesne's commitment to and support for scientific research. In her will, Mrs. Duquesne named the Institut Pasteur and the Ligue Contre le Cancer – Paris Committee as joint residuary legatees of her estate.

This year's award went to Olivier Schwartz, Head of the Virus and Immunity Unit. He shared the award with Dr. Jérôme Galon, Director of Research at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm).

The Duquesne Award was presented on September 20 at the Imagine Institute, at a ceremony attended by Stewart Cole, President of the Institut Pasteur, and Jean-René Brunetière, Chairman of the Ligue Contre le Cancer – Paris Committee.

Olivier Schwartz was recognized for his entire body of research on the multiplication of pathogenic viruses (such as HIV, chikungunya, Zika and SARS-CoV-2), the role of cellular and viral proteins in facilitating or inhibiting viral propagation, and the ongoing battle between viruses and the immune system.
