On the occasion of the Scientific Day of the 49th Institut Pasteur International Network Directors’ Council, Prof. Ramata Ly-Bakayoko, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Côte d'Ivoire, Prof. Françoise Barré- Sinoussi and Prof. Christian Bréchot awarded Dr. Richard Njouom with the Dedonder-Clayton 2017 Prize.
Head of the virology department at the Pasteur Center in Cameroon, Dr. Richard Njouom is rewarded for his work on viral hepatitis. His team has been interested for several years in the clinical and molecular epidemiology of viral hepatitis and viral respiratory diseases in Central Africa. The $ 46,000 award will fund a project to identify the biomarkers associated with liver cancer related to viral hepatitis in Cameroonian patients, including HIV-positive patients. "This award is a great recognition that motivates us to continue our work to the benefit of patients" said Dr. Njouom.
The Dedonder-Clayton Prize is awarded annually by a jury made up of representatives from the Institut Pasteur, the Institut Pasteur International Network and the ANRS. It rewards the quality of the scientific work of researchers in Africa and Asia in the field of HIV / AIDS research and related pathologies.
