Paid leave donations

As part of efforts to improve the quality of working life, the Institut Pasteur is introducing a system for donating paid leave to help Institut Pasteur employees with severely ill children or caring for a family member or close acquaintance with a disability or loss of independence.

  • What exactly is the leave donation system?

All employees at the Institut Pasteur (on a permanent or fixed-term contract) may, subject to certain conditions, make a request for donations of paid leave to care for a seriously ill child or a family member or close acquaintance with a disability or severe loss of independence. The request (backed up by supporting documents) should be made to the Human Resources Department.

Any Institut Pasteur employee (on a permanent or fixed-term contract) with at least one year's service may then donate some of their paid leave to help that colleague during the appeal for leave donations.

The system enables employees who receive leave donations to devote precious time to their child or family member, while maintaining their salary during their absence.

In practice:

  • Requests for leave donations are analyzed by the requesting employee's local HR contact and a reply is sent within 15 days. If the request is approved, the employee's manager is also notified of the decision so that he/she can plan for the upcoming absence of the employee from the team.

  • Institut Pasteur staff are notified of the donation campaign by email. All campaigns are anonymous and may last for no more than a month.

  • Employees requesting leave donations may ask for up to 30 days of leave (the equivalent of 6 weeks) per campaign.

  • Employees donating leave may give up to seven days of paid leave in any given leave year. Only paid leave days can be donated. Donations are anonymous and irreversible, and employees donating leave receive no compensation.
