Sign up for the new version of the MOOC « Viral Outbreaks and Pandemic – A one health Approach »
The digital education office is pleased to invite you to sign up for the second edition of the Viral Outbreaks and Pandemics: A One Health Approach MOOC, broadcasted from January 13, 2026 to January 12, 2027, led by Arnaud Fontanet, Jean-Pierre Vartanian, Pierre-Emmanuel Ceccaldi and Stéphan Zientara.
In this course, you will learn that most viral outbreaks are zoonoses, due to the transmission to humans of viruses from a wildlife or domestic animal reservoir, which occur by direct contact or through arthropod bites. Emergence is facilitated by rapid movements of people, animals, and goods. Moreover, climate change impacts strongly the repartition of vectors and create a narrow dependance between human health, animal health and earth wellness.
By the end of this course, you will be able to :
- Describe the recent viral human pandemics originating from viruses harbored in animal reservoirs.
- Identify factors that facilitate the spillover of these viruses from animals to humans.
- Understand the molecular mechanisms that drive emergence and virulence of viruses.
- Discern factors related to environment, climatic changes and socio-cultural evolution that will continue to increase the risk of viral human pandemics.
- Anticipate preparedness for new pandemics.
