Report on the seventh edition of the Conference on Philanthropic Trusts on December 2

On Tuesday December 2 – this year's Giving Tuesday, –, the seventh edition of the Conference on Philanthropic Trusts was held on the Institut Pasteur campus.

Given the scale and interconnected nature of the crises we are currently facing – including climate change, pandemic threats, growing social and health-related inequalities, and ethical issues in technology –, philanthropy has a more strategic and coordinated role to play than ever before. So it was decided that the theme of this year's edition should be the major global challenges of philanthropy: striking a balance between local presence and global approach. The aim was to encourage reflection on how charity can and must change if it is to offer an effective response to complex planetary issues.

The morning session explored six original topics, with each expert sharing academic insights, opinions or personal experience on the challenges and prospects for philanthropy, in dialog with the journalist Ingrid Labuzan, who moderated the discussions.

In the afternoon, two participatory workshops were run in parallel, each offering an opportunity to participate in discussions, engage in collective reflection and foster new cooperation.

This ambitious day featured a prestigious panel of French and international speakers, and attracted nearly 500 people involved in the philanthropy sector.
