The Institut Pasteur's social media accounts in the lead up to the Pasteurdon campaign: promoting science to bring communities together
In order to rally and educate the various communities that follow the Institut Pasteur through its social media accounts, several videos have been filmed both on and off the Institut Pasteur campus to illustrate and embody the scientific themes of the 2025 Pasteurdon (read the article on this topic in the BIP of September 5).
These short and dynamic videos cover a variety of perspectives and principles, including interviews with the public in the streets of Paris, an in-lab talking head video, a Polaroid animation providing a "research snapshot", and question and answer sessions. These videos, performed solo or as a duo, in laboratories or out on campus, are full of different settings and faces that have been adding vibrancy to the Institut Pasteur's social media accounts (LinkedIn, Instagram, Threads, Facebook and also TikTok) since September 10.
The newsletter team wanted to share some of the first videos streamed with you:
- "Street interview" format: These interviews with the public provide an interactive and educational format for discussing cancer in young people aged 15 to 19 and high-risk behaviors linked to cancer. The Institut Pasteur headed out into the French capital with a microphone to talk to passers-by and educate them on the reality of cancer in young people and start a discussion on research and prevention.

- "In-lab talking head video" format: as a way of discussing pandemics and the challenges facing research in preparation for them, Timothée Bruel, a scientist in the Virus and Immunity Unit, explains, while performing an experiment, how zoonoses, or diseases spread by animals or insects, need to be understood in order to tackle them more effectively at global level. WHO currently lists up to 200 diseases transmitted by animals, a figure that is on the rise due to deforestation, globalization and climate change. Knowledge is essential for developing new tools, a message delivered on camera by Timothée.
