Tour de France 2022: a look back at the 8th stage of the Tour in Dole - tribute to Louis Pasteur

On Saturday, July 9, the city of Dole celebrated the memory of Louis Pasteur during a day full of festivities on the occasion of the 8th stage of the Tour de France. The director general of the Pasteur Institute, Stewart Cole, as well as Pascale Cossart, Institut Pasteur Professor and Honorary Permanent Secretary at the French Academy of Sciences, and Erik Orsenna, member of the Académie Française and Ambassador of the Institut Pasteur and the Pasteur Network, were present to represent the institute during this event.

The morning was marked by the departure of a particularly symbolic stage of the Tour de France. After setting off from Dole (Louis Pasteur's birthplace), the riders crossed Arbois (the town of his youth and summer vacations) before finishing the stage in Lausanne.

Throughout the day, the house where Louis Pasteur was born remained open to the public, with many guided tours provided by the EPCC Terre de Louis Pasteur teams. From 5:00 pm, an open-air concert gathered a large number of people on the banks of the Doubs.

In the evening, the Mayor of Dole paid tribute to Louis Pasteur at a reception attended by the Prefect of the Region. Stewart Cole gave a speech on the "Pasteur spirit", and its relevance in facing current challenges.

The evening ended with a sound and light show on the life and work of Louis Pasteur for all audiences, especially younger visitors, and a large fireworks display.

This day was the occasion of a great popular tribute to Louis Pasteur.
