Publication of the 124th issue of the "Lettre de l'Institut Pasteur": Mosquitoes, ticks, biting flies... how far will they go?

The latest issue of the quarterly newsletter for Institut Pasteur donors – the "Lettre de l'Institut Pasteur" (LIP) – contains a special feature on vector-borne diseases.

"Science knows no country," said Louis Pasteur. Unfortunately neither do mosquitoes and other disease-carrying biting insects. Concerns about vector-borne diseases are now beginning to grow in France, but these diseases have long been a burden for global health, claiming nearly a million lives each year and causing chronic suffering, disability and stigma. Vector-borne diseases, many of which are preventable, include malaria, dengue, chikungunya and Lyme disease. They are all too often neglected because they generally affect disadvantaged communities. But change is afoot with the One Health concept, which also goes beyond borders to take a holistic view of human, animal and environmental health. As you will read in this latest issue, the Institut Pasteur has long been involved in this research, and its long-standing commitment to the field will soon be reflected in a new dedicated center for research into vector-borne diseases (CMTV), currently under construction.
