PASTEUR ONE

2024 World Music Day: a look back at the festive, sociable staff event

Last Friday, the campus came alive with a packed program of festivities for World Music Day. Despite a rainy start to the summer, a huge number of you came along to enjoy the musical and cultural festivities, spend time together and indulge in some delicious culinary treats.

From 12 noon to 1.30pm, the Institut Pasteur's culture and sports clubs put on a memorable show. Theater, dance, song, drawing and music: the atrium in the François Jacob building was the perfect setting for a colorful, highly original showcase that was much appreciated by Institut Pasteur President Yasmine Belkaid, who came along to take part in this enjoyable staff event.

From 2pm, as the first rays of sun began to peek out from behind the clouds, staff began to explore the various food stands, guided by their taste buds. Waffles, crepes, candy floss, Italian gelato and "cycling smoothies" could be found at regular intervals along a special route around campus featuring singing, theater, film, music and corporal expression!

Guided by colorful bunting and signs made specially for the occasion, many of you took the opportunity to follow the route around campus and soak up the festive atmosphere on Friday afternoon. The diversity and depth of Pasteurian talent was very much in evidence, with a singing group, improv theater, line dancing and modern jazz, a photo booth complete with fancy dress, and artistic and historical discovery trails.

At 4pm, the Émile Duclaux lecture hall hosted an event that was miles away from the usual scientific and institutional business that takes place there! Many of you came along to participate in a fun, lively workshop that involved using the body to create music and rhythm. Led by two members of the troupe "Le cri du Lion," each participant, individually and also collectively, contributed to a unique musical composition, using their voices, hands and feet to create a wonderful tableau of sound.

To round the day off in style, staff had the opportunity to listen to members of the Music Lab (including "Billie and the…What?!" and "Selene's Dream Team"), who gave an open-air concert off campus, opposite Villa M, on Boulevard Pasteur. This Institut Pasteur rock concert was a great hit with those who stayed to listen.
