Reminder: 2025 calls for proposals under the MD-PhD program to strengthen links between science and medicine

On the initiative of the senior management team and in connection with the new Pasteur 2030 Strategic Plan, the Department of Education and the Medical Department are pleased to announce the launch of the Institut Pasteur's new MD-PhD program.

The aim of the program is to strengthen the links between basic research, applied research and clinical practice. It provides physicians and medical students with opportunities to develop translational research projects in the Institut Pasteur's many research units.

There are five ways to enter the MD-PhD program:
1. "Médecine-Sciences" program
2. International PPU-MD-PhD program
3. Hospital collaboration
4. Lab-funded PhD contracts
5. Erasmus+ program and bilateral agreements

In 2025, two calls for proposals are being launched in connection with the MD-PhD program:

•    Research Internship: New Call for Projects from the MD-PhD Program – Host International Interns!

As part of the MD-PhD program, the Education Department is pleased to announce a new call for projects that will allow students from the prestigious Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) Medical School in Munich to carry out research internships within your teams.

These students, selected through the StEP excellence program, have the opportunity to spend up to 6 months of their internship at the Weill Cornell Medical College (New York), Harvard Medical School (Boston), and starting 2025, in the laboratories of the Institut Pasteur thanks to a new bilateral agreement with the Ludwig-Maximilian University and the Institut Pasteur.

This is a unique opportunity to welcome an intern with a medical background within your team and to advance your research while contributing to the establishment of a future European network of physician-scientists associated with the Institut Pasteur.

LMU has been a partner of the Institut Pasteur since 2015 through the Amgen Scholars program and the European University Alliance EUGLOH, which the Institut Pasteur joined in 2025.

How to participate?
If you are interested in hosting an intern in your laboratory, please submit your project proposal by filling out the project form available through this link and send it to MD-PhD@pasteur.fr.

Submission Deadline: May 16, 2025
Internship Start Date: June 2026

•    Reminder: 2025 call for proposals for partnership contracts

The Institut Pasteur is keen to step up its interactions with practitioners working in hospital clinical departments with its call for proposals for "partnership contracts for hospital professionals."

These contracts, which allow for significant flexibility in terms of timeframe and practical arrangements (part time or full time, for periods lasting from 1 to 3 years on the basis of an annual appraisal), provide financial compensation for clinical departments and hospitals to cover the "research" time of the physicians concerned.

They are aimed at hospital physicians at varying stages of their career (consultants (PH), lecturer/consultants (MCU-PH), professor/consultants (PU-PH), hospital-university practitioners (PHU) or contract practitioners (PC)) who are keen to work in a research unit, at the Institut Pasteur Medical Center and/or at a National Reference Center (CNR) or WHO Collaborating Center (WHOCC) at the Institut Pasteur.

This call for proposals is open to the whole of France and applies to physicians at any health care establishment involved in research.

The 2025 call is now open. The application process is as follows:

•    June 2, 2025: submission of applications to interface@pasteur.fr (you must use the application template including: proposal summary, CV, proposal, publications and patents, collaborations, cover letter, agreement from the laboratory, head of department, head of division and representative of the university hospital);

•    End of June 2025: oral presentation of the proposal to a mixed panel composed of Institut Pasteur staff and university hospital staff;

•    July 15, 2025: successful applications chosen by the selection board;

•    November 1, 2025: start of partnership contracts for successful applicants.
