Adaptation of the security policy

Following the attacks on Friday November 13, 2015, and notwithstanding any additional measures that the government may take during the state of emergency, we are enforcing the following rules:

1) Requests for permission to work out of hours in the containment laboratories are restricted to commitments related to ongoing experiments that are strictly necessary (maintenance of cultures, etc.). Clear and relevant reasons should be provided as to the need to pursue these activities. Those staff members responsible should in no circumstances be alone in the labs (minimum of 2 people) and they should be identified and authorized – the Technical Resources and Environment Department (DRTE) should be given a list for each unit and informed of the schedule of related activities for the coming days. Only staff members authorized to work in containment labs will be given permission for these tasks. The DRTE should also be notified of their telephone number and email address.

2) Strict access control to the campus, with security checks on all briefcases, bags, packages, etc., is maintained. All visitors and delivery personnel must sign in and indicate the name of the staff member(s) they are visiting (arrival and departure times) or delivering items to. The staff member(s) in question should make their way to reception in person to greet any visitors or delivery personnel. All visitors must be accompanied throughout their visit to the campus and inside any buildings.

3) Any general or specific measures that may be taken by the Chief of Police must be strictly enforced: these may include the provisional closure of an institution or gathering places (lecture halls, conference rooms, etc.), checks by security forces, etc. We would remind you that the state of emergency is an exceptional situation under which security forces are authorized to carry out searches by day or night, some gatherings are prohibited, the press and publications of all types may be subject to controls, etc.

4) Specific measures are applied to scientific meetings, seminars or conferences involving external participants:

- all events must include a system of prior registration and only those people whose names are included on lists given in advance to the Institut Pasteur Security Department (accueil@pasteur.fr) will be admitted,

- security checks on arrival: ID checks for participants and a sign-in sheet,

- visual inspections of the contents of bags or briefcases,

- anyone who needs to leave the supervised area where the event is being held should be inspected again (including any bags/briefcases) if they return to the event,

- everyone should keep their coats and/or belongings with them,

- any unattended packages, bags or luggage should immediately be reported to reception and to the person coordinating the event,

- visible badges should be worn throughout the event.

5) Any suspicious incident or situation should be immediately reported to: celluledecrise@pasteur.fr.

In these exceptional circumstances, I am sure that each and every one of us understands the importance of these security measures and will do their utmost to make sure they are strictly enforced.
