On December 31, 2019, the WHO China Country Office was informed of cases of pneumonia of unknown etiology (unknown cause) detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province of China. It was the official beginning of an epidemic that would rapidly become worldwide. In January, a task force was put in place at the Institut Pasteur and research projects were quickly launched.
