Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
On Tuesday May 26, the senior management team held a meeting for all staff in an unprecedented format with the aim of providing the latest information about COVID-19. For the first time in the history of the Institut Pasteur, the meeting took place entirely remotely, given the current context, and despite the unusual conditions it was followed by nearly 800 of you.
The two-part meeting opened with a focus on COVID-19 research. Stewart Cole discussed the scientific context of the outbreak and outlined the ongoing scientific programs. Various scientists on campus then gave a short contribution. Etienne Simon-Lorière, Head of the Evolutionary Genomics of RNA Viruses G5, spoke about the emergence of the virus and the COVID-19 pandemic; he was followed by Simon Cauchemez, Head of the Mathematical Modeling of Infectious Diseases Unit, with an update on the evolution of the outbreak. Veronica Rezelj, a PhD student in the Viral Populations and Pathogenesis Unit directed by Marco Vignuzzi, then spoke about the development of new treatments, and Christiane Gerke, from the Innovation Development Department, looked at the question of vaccine candidates.
The second part of the meeting, led by Stewart Cole, François Romaneix, Nathalie Denoyés and Bruno Hoen, focused on more practical aspects and how the outbreak is affecting our activities and daily life. The broad principles of the BCP and the PBRP were outlined, together with all the measures taken to protect staff. Three scenarios for the progressive resumption of activities were presented, each prioritizing the health and safety of staff and adaptation to government measures and taking into account the development of the outbreak in the Greater Paris region.
A question and answer session was also scheduled to close each part. More than a hundred questions were asked by Pasteurians, which made it possible to obtain rich and quality responses from the various speakers. If all the questions could not be dealt with directly, due to lack of time, it is always possible to send questions related to PRPA to Cellule-PRPA@pasteur.fr
