Carla Saleh receives the 2020 FRM Lucien Tartois scientific award

The French Foundation for Medical Research (FRM) recognizes scientists who, through the originality of their professional achievements, are contributing to the advancement of knowledge and to current and future progress in medical research. The laureates are selected by specialized panels whose members belong to the FRM Scientific Council.

The 13 FRM scientific prizewinners in 2020 include Carla Saleh, Head of the Viruses and RNA Interference Unit, who has been chosen to receive the Lucien Tartois award. This distinction, funded by a gift from Lucien Tartois, is awarded for research in oncology, immunology or virology.

Carla Saleh's research has improved our understanding of the immune system and the antiviral response in invertebrates. Her work demonstrates the value of a multidisciplinary approach by combining genetics and cell biology in the context of immunity and infection, with the use of next-generation sequencing. It has had a major impact on fundamental questions related to biology and evolution and also on medical research in the areas of epidemiology, biology of infections and immunology. Her research is not just pioneering in the field of antiviral immunity in insects; it has set a new standard in entomology and infectious disease research.

Carla Saleh has been recognized for her entire body of research.
