With nearly 3.2 billion people currently at risk of contracting malaria, scientists from the Institut Pasteur, the CNRS and Inserm have experimentally developed a live, genetically attenuated vaccine for Plasmodium, the parasite responsible for the disease. By identifying and deleting one of the parasite's genes, the scientists enabled it to induce an effective, long-lasting immune response in a mouse model.

On Tuesday July 12, the results of "Interact", a project for the development of digital applications to improve the daily life of autism patients and facilitate data sharing between patients and scientists, were presented.

International

Reminder: The 2016 edition of the International Scientific Symposium will be held from November 29 to December 2 on the Paris campus. The deadline for abstracts has now been extended to August 16, 2016. This annual event, entitled "From basic science to biomarkers and tools in global health", will focus on every aspects of research that can potentially lead to new biomarkers.

A new decision memo concerning the appointment of course directors for the 2016-2017 academic year has been issued.

Center

This theoretical and practical course is aimed at researchers that would like to get the most out of their Next Generation Sequencing datasets.

Fundraising

Over the past three weeks, almost 60 of you have taken part in the "Roulons solidaires" campaign (excluding the "roues libres" or "free wheel" days), clocking up the kilometers to raise money for the Institut Pasteur's research. Some of you took on the clock in spectacular fashion, cycling even 160 kilometers! Since the campaign was launched on July 4, you have covered an impressive total of 1200km - not to mention the individual and team challenges completed along the way.
