At its session on February 28, 2020, on a proposal from the President, the Institut Pasteur Board of Directors gave its approval to the appointment of Professor Michael Nilges as Vice-President Technology and Scientific Programs.

He succeeds Professor Christophe d'Enfert, who was appointed as Scientific Director on January 2.

Michael Nilges will remain Head of the Institut Pasteur's Structural Bioinformatics Unit.

He was also Director of the Department of Structural Biology and Chemistry, and in this role he will be replaced by Paola Arimondo, whose appointment was also approved by the Board of Directors.

Before joining the Institut Pasteur in 2001, Michael Nilges accumulated extensive professional experience at international level, especially in the United States (Yale University and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute) and in Germany (European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg), his home country, where he completed a Master's in Physics and a PhD and accreditation to supervise research in Chemistry.

Michael Nilges has received a number of scientific honors and awards, including an ERC Advanced Grant, and was elected as a member of the Academia Europaea in 2016.

His discoveries have led to several significant patents and he has authored more than 200 publications with over 30,000 citations in the fields of molecular modeling and structural biology.

Michael Nilges will continue the work of Christophe d'Enfert in organizing and developing technological and animal testing platforms at the Institut Pasteur to serve the scientific needs of campus as effectively as possible.

Michael Nilges took up this post on March 2, 2020. He reports directly to the Scientific Director.
