105th issue of the "Lettre de l'Institut Pasteur" out now!

The latest issue of the quarterly newsletter for Institut Pasteur donors – the "Lettre de l'Institut Pasteur" (LIP) – contains a special feature on the Cell Polarity, Migration and Cancer Unit, which conducts research on the brain cells that cause gliomas, a severe type of brain tumor. Known as astrocytes, these brain cells, which support neuronal function, can sometimes become cancerous and form gliomas. Some 3,000 new cases of glioma are diagnosed each year in France; they represent the leading cause of cancer death in children, ahead of leukemia.

The increasing incidence of cancer worldwide is currently a major focus of the Institut Pasteur's research. The work of this unit, composed of around 15 scientists from all over the world, could result in new approaches to tackle these extremely severe tumors. The team is hoping to shed light on how these tumors develop and also to identify biomarkers that will help improve diagnosis.
